Product Brand : Starrett
Product Model : 123EMZ-6

The Starrett 123EMZ-6 master vernier caliper measures 0 to 6 inches with 0.001” accuracy, and 0-150 mm with 0.02 mm accuracy, and comes in a protective fitted-wood case. The vernier scales are longer than normal, with 50 divisions, allowing half as many bar graduations as conventional single-vernier tools. These widely-spaced graduations make it easier to read a measurement from the caliper. This easy-reading measuring tool allows for reliable and accurate readings with the sharp, black graduations on the no-glare, satin chrome-finished bar.

The open-face design of the slide allows both the inside and outside vernier scales to be indicated on the same side, allowing both inside and outside measurements to be read without turning the tool over. The screw-type adjusting nut allows for fine measurement adjustments for accuracy, while the lock nut holds measurements for reading, repeating, or transferring the measurement. The tool steel construction makes the jaws harder and more wear-resistant than an equivalent stainless steel jaw. The bars are hardened and stabilized. The measuring surfaces are hardened, ground, and lapped, for a very hard, flat, and polished measuring surface that is considerably more accurate than a surface that has not had these operations performed. The graduations on the bar are machine-divided for accuracy. The master bar’s combination of straight and angular ways allow positive alignment of graduations, and easy adjustment of the flush-fitting verniers. Aligning flush vernier plate graduations to the same plane as the graduations on the bar ensures readability and accuracy. This caliper has divider points on the back side to help accurately set dividers and machine parts. This caliper has inch and millimeter graduations on the same bar, so outside measurements can be taken easily, while inside measurements must be compensated for by adding the nib width to the indicated reading. The maximum closed nib width of this caliper is 0.250”. The bar width on this caliper is 11/16”. The jaw depth is approximately 1-9/16”. The longer length of the adjusting jaw slide provides a longer bearing surface on the master bar, which ensures that the bar and solid jaw are square. This longer bearing surface also means the caliper has additional stiffness for resistance to springing and therefore, more accurate measurements. Tight, smoothly fitted slides offer a high level of accuracy along with easy adjustment.

Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, manufacturing, carpentry, and medicine. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The dial caliper is used also for measuring size differential between two objects. The digital caliper takes the same sort of differential measurements as the dial caliper by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD (replacing the dial) that displays a single, easily read value in both English and metric units. Some digital calipers can hold data readings between measurements and send them to data collection devices.

The L. S. Starrett Company was founded in 1880, originally manufacturing bench vises, squares, and other tools. ♦♦♦Mitutoyo 160-130 Vernier Caliper, With Nib Jaws, 0-450mm Range, +/-0.1mm Accuracy, 0.02mm Graduation Overview

The Mitutoyo 160-130 vernier caliper performs precise ID measurements to within 20 mm, for applications where the highest accuracy is required, especially in scientific research and in industries where parts must fit exactly. This caliper takes inside and outside readings.

The vernier caliper has a fixed (main) scale and a movable (vernier) scale. The vernier scale moves over the main scale rule to give a fractional measurement which is added to the measurement of the main scale to achieve a more accurate result. The main scale may be marked in inches, millimeters, or both. The vernier scale may be marked in inches or millimeters. The 160-130 has a dual vernier scale, with both inch and metric measurements, on the upper and lower edges, respectively. The dual scale enables this caliper to measure a greater diversity of item types. A thumbwheel permits fast measuring, and a rotating screw controls the caliper’s movement.

The 160-130 has a dual vernier scale, with an upper scale measuring in inches and a lower scale measuring in millimeters. The scales are graduated in 0.02 mm and raised to slide easily and protect the graduation markings. A clamping screw on the upper scale rotates to control scale movement and locks to hold the sliding jaw’s position. The caliper weighs 1,100 g and is made of hardened, corrosion-free steel construction with a satin chrome finish. It has two-way measurement capability: outer diameter (OD) and inner diameter (ID), with rounded jaw measuring faces for accurate ID measurements. No depth bar. It has a main slide length of 632 mm, a jaw depth of 100 mm, an jaw tip length of 18 mm, and a beam width of 25 mm. Range is 0 - 450 mm/20 - 450 mm, Resolution is 0.02 mm, and Accuracy is rated at + or - 0.1 mm, which meets Federal Accuracy Specifications GGG-C-111B.

The Mitutoyo 700-126 plastic caliper is a digital caliper with upper and lower jaws for inside and outside measurements from 0 to 150 mm/0 to 6”. Easily-read digital LCD characters and durable plastic construction make this caliper useful in a wide range of settings, including nurseries, medical offices, laboratories, and trade workshops. This caliper has accessible zero-setting and on/off function control buttons and uses both inch and metric measuring systems.

The 700-126 has the electrostatic capacitance type linear encoder. It measures inner (ID) and outer diameter (OD). Its inch/metric system uses a 0.001”/0.1 mm gradient. The caliper’s length is 235 mm, jaw depth is 40 mm, sliding LCD is 60 by 34 mm, and beam width is 16 mm. Range is 0 to 6”/0 to 150 mm, resolution is 0.001”/0.1 mm, and accuracy is rated + or – 0.008”/0.2 mm. Also included are zero-setting and power on/off function buttons. Starrett 123MZ-600 Master Vernier Caliper, 0-600mm Range, +/-0.01mm Accuracy, 0.02mm Graduation, In Finished Wood Case Feature

  • Long 50-division vernier scale permits half as many bar graduations as conventional single-vernier tools, for easier measurement reading

  • Tight, smoothly fitted slides for the maximum possible accuracy and easy adjustment

Starrett 123MZ-600 Master Vernier Caliper, 0-600mm Range, +/-0.01mm Accuracy, 0.02mm Graduation, In Finished Wood Case Overview

The Starrett 123MZ-600 master vernier caliper measures 0-600mm with 0.02mm accuracy, and comes in a protective fitted-wood case.

The maximum closed nib width of this caliper is 7.6mm. The bar width on this caliper is 23.81mm. The jaw depth is approximately 58mm.

They acquired other companies throughout the years, expanding their services into making precision measurement instruments and tools, such as calipers, micrometers, saw blades, and gauges. Starrett is headquartered in Athol, Massachusetts and has manufacturing facilities in Brazil, the United Kingdom, China, and other locations.

Starrett 1202F-6 Fractional Dial Caliper, White Face, 0-6

The Starrett 1202F-6 dial caliper measures 0 to 6 inches with 0.01” and 1/64” accuracy. This handy measuring tool allows for reliable and accurate depth, inside, and outside readings with the sharp, black graduations on the no-glare, satin-finished bar, crisp lines on the dial face, and knife edge contacts on the jaws. The dial’s inner, decimal scale is white, while the outer, fractional scale is yellow.

One full revolution of the dial is equivalent to 0.100”. The knife-edge contacts can be used to scribe parallel lines on the workpiece. This caliper can be used with one hand through operating the fine adjustment roll with the thumb. The lock screw locks the dial bezel and holds the sliding jaw in position. The depth rod is integrated into the rack of the caliper, unlike many calipers which offer a detachable depth rod, or none at all. The hardened stainless steel components, including the bar, measuring surfaces, rack, gears, and depth rod, offer corrosion resistance, increased accuracy, and long life. Positive double pinion anti-backlash control offers increased accuracy over standard gear configurations. Backlash is the amount of clearance between mated gear teeth in the caliper controls – which prevents the gear teeth from jamming. It is undesirable to have much backlash due to the lack of precision offered by the increased amount of play between gears. Certain gear designs can minimize or eliminate backlash. Double pinion anti-backlash systems have two round gears (also called pinions) in contact with the rack gear that extends down the length of the caliper itself. The two pinions have a lower chance of disengaging with the rack gear than a single gear, thereby keeping the caliper more accurate than a single gear anti-backlash system. The rack teeth point down to keep foreign matter from clogging the gear operations. This prevents measurement errors where metal chips could interfere with proper caliper operation.
